Sherrard’s tenure as owner saw the fortunes of the Parker House reversed, as it once again became one of the most sought-after venues in Boston. GUEST SERVICES

The “new” Parker House was a magnificent sight to behold when it debuted in 1927. General manager Claude M. Hart even commemorated the event by flying over Boston Harbor in a private plane with his secretary, Alice Mulligan. The two then tossed the keys to the earlier hotel into the water, signifying rebirth of the Parker House. All rooms come with flat-screen HDTVs, coffeemakers, bathrobes, minibars, and safes.

Guest Historian Series

In 1866, he bought a narrow lot at 66 Tremont Street, a few doors from the corner of School Street. On this property, which adjoined the rear of his hotel buildings, he built a third hotel extension, closely modeled on the School Street annex, with bay windows and a steep mansard roof. The hotel’s ascent as a preeminent holiday destination continued unabated for many years, even after Harvey D. Parker passed away in 1884. By the mid-1920s, Whipple finally had enough capital to buy the hotel from Harvey D. Parker’s estate.

In Anita Diamant's 2004 novel, The Boston Girl, the main character experiences a bad date at the Parker House. Retreat to downtown Boston to experience 15% off luxury accommodations, breakfast, a welcome amenity and more. Use Next and Previous buttons to navigate, or jump to a slide using the slide dots.

Composed of thinkers from across the country, the Saturday Club gathered at the Parker House to discuss the popular philosophical topics of the age. Its ranks included such renowned intellectuals like Nathaniel Hawthorne, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr. Celebrated English author Charles Dickens even joined the group regularly during his literary tour of the United States of the late 1860s.

At the top of the ramp, follow the signs for Government Center/Faneuil Hall. At the end of North Street (.25 miles), make a left onto Congress Street. Take your first right onto State Street (which becomes Court Street almost immediately) and follow it to the end, making a left at the fork onto Tremont Street. Take your first left onto School Street and Omni Parker House is immediately on the right.

Aside from the economy category, rooms feature wood work desk with data ports for laptop plug-ins. Guests might feel vestiges of the old hotel in a less pleasant way in the cramped bathrooms, where maneuvering in front of the sink without coming up against the heavy fabric shower curtain is difficult. The teeny bathrooms feature shower/tub combos, pedestal sinks, and Omni Hotel brand toiletries (including mouthwash).

On the flip side, tiny bathrooms also serve as (cramped) reminders of the hotel's notable heritage. The original Parker House building and later architectural additions were demolished in the mid-1920s, and replaced in 1927 with a sleek, modern building, essentially the one that stands there today. Omni Parker House in historic Boston is modern upscale at its best.
